The Filling Station serves as an oasis for live music lovers, a local venue that brings in locally celebrated musicians and traveling acts of every genre. The concerts showcase a variety of artists, welcoming diverse audiences to the north Bozeman space with performances held throughout the week.
Kicking off the month on April 4th is “Terminatour 2 Judgment Day” featuring headliners Serpentspire and opening support by The Night We Died, Propagate the ROT and Acalvaria. The show starts at 8pm. A technical brutal death metal band from Spokane, Serpentspire perform with a pummeling and technically advanced style. Their latest EP, Returning Darkness, is available now.
Following on April 5th, enjoy a night of country with Lone Elder. Openers Cactus Cuts will get the music started at 9pm. Hailing from the dusty plains and echoing canyons of the American West, the band weaves tales of the frontier’s forgotten souls. Blending the raw energy of rock with the mournful soul of blues, their music paints vivid pictures of cowboys, outlaws and the restless spirits that linger in their wake. Through electrifying guitar riffs, and vocals that echo through the night, Lone Elder doesn’t just tell stories – they summon the ghosts themselves.
UADA deliver their “Surviving Dark Winter Tour” to Bozeman on April 6th. The heaviest show of the year kicks off at 7:30pm with openers Abigail Williams, Death Support, Oriska and Galvanist. Within the stretch of three albums as well as dense and triumphant live shows across the globe, they have not only spiked the map of extreme metal music, but their unrelenting touring schedule an unbridled will to push forward into new horizons has also earned them a reception in all the extremes imaginable.
Accidental Astronauts open for a night of music courtesy of BoZambique on April 11th. Show starts at 8pm. The band performs percussive-centric melodies driven by world-infused rhythm and blues. Members Blaise Arsenault, Ben Klein, Doug Wales and Loren Block are known to deliver a blend of Afro-pop, Cuban and Latin tunes.
April 12th features “No Day But Today,” a special night of opera and musical theater presented by Intermountain Opera. The event begins at 6:30pm. Join cast members from La Bohème and local stars Paige Rasmussen (Paige & the People’s Band) and Jeff Kitto (The Clintons) as they present music from the rock musical, RENT and the opera that inspired it. The performance will be backed by local all-stars Jake Fleming (bass), Alex Robilotta (guitar) and Thomas Roberts (drums), as well as IOB’s own Michael Sakir (keys).
Electric River presents Object Heavy on April 13th. Music starts at 8pm. One of Northern California’s hardest hitting soul sensations, the band is led by the nuanced and powerful voice of Richard Love and composed of seasoned veterans of the West Coast soul and funk scene. Object Heavy’s magnetic blend of classic Cadillac soul, effortlessly contagious dance grooves, vocal harmonies and blazing musicianship is a must see live experience. Their latest album, Love & Gravity, is available now.
Joining forces for the tail end of their winter tour, Banshee Tree and Yak Attack are set for an April 18th show. The entertainment begins at 8pm.
Banshee Tree is a high-energy quartet that blends modern indie, trance and psychedelic rock with old school Django inspired jazz. Using traditional instruments through a range of pedals, the project ties the styles and sounds of modern music to the earthy roots of acoustic music in a whole new way. Their live show is a wild dance party with a great deal of improvisation while remaining grounded in indie style songwriting.
Portland-based live electronica power trio Yak Attack, best described as “organic electronica,” uses tight chops, live loops and well crafted songs, combined with raw improvisation, to build high-energy and uplifting dance music from scratch, where every note is played and recorded live.
Check out an energetic set by Squirrel Gravy on April 19th. Daddy’s Home will open the 9pm show. What started as a country and bluegrass band featuring acoustic guitar, fiddle and high harmonies, the band evolved into something more electrified and funky. They are known to mix an ever-expanding list of originals and an eclectic list of covers by bands like Phish, Ween, The Jayhawks, The Grateful Dead, The Beatles, Tom Petty and The Allman Brothers, among others.
Celebrate 4/20 at the Filler with a headlining set by Icarus on April 20th as well as sets by Brother Venus and Jazz Cabbage. The evening will feature a mix of the valley’s best grunge and funk music at 8:30pm. A Bozeman art rock band, Icarus is driven by influences including alternative bands like Primus and My Bloody Valentine, as well as more diverse soundscapes coming from artists like John Coltrane and Kyuss. They offer a range of styles, described by some as a thrashy Black Sabbath.
Pacific Northwest foursome Whalien visit the Treasure State with an April 25th show. Drew McDowell & the Scurry and Puddle open the 8pm show. The band travels the globe, moving with the crash of thunder and the poise of the lotus, showing listeners everywhere how to really, really rock. Their high-energy prog rock fusion will have audiences grinning, gasping and dancing.
ORNJ brings the jams and marmalades to the Filler on April 26th. The band will be rocking the joint with psychedelic blues band Rocky Mountain Sonic and rockgrass band Buffalo Traffic Jam. Music starts at 9pm.
Locally famous metal/hard rock band Liquid Gnar returns with an April 27th show. False Fiction will open at 9pm. Get ready to head-bang with these amazing instrumentalists.
