Live music lovers flock to the Filling Station, a local venue that brings in locally celebrated musicians and traveling acts of every genre. The concerts showcase a variety of artists, welcoming diverse audiences to the north Bozeman space with performances held throughout the week.
Electric River Presents a performance by Jess Williamson on March 5th with local support from Hannah Jo Lally at 8pm. Touring in support of her latest release, Time Ain’t Accidental, the album is evocative of iconic Western landscapes, tear-in-beer anthems and a wholly modern take on country music that is completely her own. Above everything, sonically and thematically, this album is about Williamson’s voice, crystalline and acrobatic in its range, standing front and center. Think Linda Rondstadt turned minimalist, The Chicks gone indie or even Emmylou Harris’ work with Daniel Lanois.
Check out Chicago Farmer & the Fieldnotes on March 7th. Montana’s own Canoe Dealers will open the 8pm show. Bringing soulful rust-belt anthems to life with steel guitar, organ, mandolin and acoustic guitar, the band travels the interstate leaving audiences spellbound. Their most recent releases – Flyover Country and the Fore!!!! EP – are available now.
Bad Neighbors take the stage March 8th with an opening set by Jack Oosterhuis at 9pm. Fusing alt rock, pop punk, classic rock and a touch of country, the Bozeman foursome puts on an incredible show. Their covers like “Burnin’ for You” and “Mr. Brightside” highlight their diverse influences, while heartfelt originals like “Best Part of Me” showcase their genre-blending charm.
Performing March 9th is the Lazy Owl String Band. Another local group, Cactus Cuts, will kick off the tunes at 9pm. A diverse group of musicians, influences range from jazz and blues to punk rock. However varied, the Owls are undeniably steeped in an old-timey traditional style. The group encapsulates an ethic of hard driving, whiskey drinking, boot-stomping music with infectious energy that’s sure to get you moving.
Take in a funkified Pi Day on March 14th with music by Jazz Cabbage. One Leaf open at 8pm. New to the local scene, the jazz-funk fusion ensemble combines hard hitting, high energy funk beats with soulful melodies that get audiences grooving.
Get ready to dance your face off with an energetic show by Hard Hugs on March 15th with openers Tiny Iota at 9pm. The evening will feature synth-heavy, punk-rock-disco tunes. With a focus on aggressive groove and electronic textures, the project aims to create an experience that invites audiences to dance and shout along in communal catharsis. Their self-titled release is available now.
Filthy Family Presents a special VIP night with hip-hopper Stevie Stone on March 16th at 8pm. The evening will double as a talent search with additional support from Filth & Foul, Kayvon, Sentinal and Bubba Scholler, among others. The man behind the name, Stephen Williams is a Billboard-charting rapper from Colombia, MO. A onetime artist under Tech N9ne’s Strange Music label, Stone is currently an independent artist and label head for his own Ahdasee Records. The lyrical beast released his latest full-length, Raising the Bar, last year as well as numerous follow-up singles.
Delivering their “Feeding the Herd Tour” to Bozeman on March 21st are Austin Martin & the Herd. Music starts at 8pm. With their infectious blend of country, pop and hip-hop influences, the band pushes the boundaries of contemporary music, captivating listeners and leaving a lasting impression wherever they go. Whether performing in the heart of Montana or the glitz of Hollywood, “the Mötley Crüe of Country” is known for its high-energy performances and electrifying stage presence.
Rocky Mountain Sonic and Jacob Rountree help Come Back K! celebrate their recent album release at 9pm on March 22nd. Established just under a decade ago, the band serves as a vehicle for Kraig Rieger’s songwriting interests and home recording projects. The Bozeman-based indie/alternative band consists of Rieger (rhythm guitar, vocals) and multi-instrumentalist Nate Smith who also produces for the band. Their new album, Storm and Settle, released last summer.
On March 23rd, Dream Machine perform following an opening set by Ticket Sauce at 9pm. Experience 70s psychedelic fuzz rock the way it was meant to be with this duo comprised of Matthew and Doris Melton. Take a trip to another time with organ, synth and guitar fueled jams.
Daniel Kosel takes the stage on March 29th with help from openers Blues Line and Hell’s Half Acre at 8pm. Enjoy a night of rock and blues curated by Kosel, whose poetry, soulful vocals and guitar work make a delightful listening experience best described as “Crues Music” – a self-styled blend of country, rock and blues.
Closing out the month on March 30th is sorryimolive & Friends at 8pm. The local singer/songwriter is known for her mix of R&B and hip-hop, adding some welcome texture to the Bozeman live music scene.
