Yellowstone Ballet Company (YBC) celebrates its 35th annual production of The Nutcracker at 4:30pm on Saturday, December 19th and 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 20th at the Willson Auditorium in Bozeman.
Award-winning choreographer and YBC’s Artistic Director for 36 years, Kathleen Rakela, creatively intertwines talented dancers and choreographers from Gallatin, Park, and Yellowstone counties, including Raison D’être Dance Project, Billings Ballet Company, and Yellowstone Ballet Academy along with professional dancers Molly Groeschl and Lucas Segovia.
Mr. Segovia, originally from Buenos Aires, joined Ballet Argentina as a soloist under Julio Bocca’s direction. He was awarded the Premio Clarin, the most prestigious recognition for the arts in Argentina, and was promoted to Principal Dancer shortly after. He has been a part of The Washington Ballet and of Morphoses/The Wheeldon Company directed by Christopher Wheeldon and has danced with The Joffrey Ballet for six seasons, performing in virtually the entire repertoire of the company as a soloist or principal dancer. Lucas has danced works by Balanchine, Robbins, Twyla Tharp, Mark Morris, Christopher Wheeldon, Wayne McGregor, Alexei Ratmansky and William Forsythe.
Ms. Groeschl, a Bozeman native, began her early training under Ann Bates & Dana Sorg. She spent her summers training under scholarship at Ballet West, American Ballet Theatre, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, & Orlando Ballet. She was accepted & trained year-round with Pacific Northwest Ballet. She has performed professionally with Milwaukee Ballet, Colorado Ballet, as a Soloist for Ballet Tucson and as a Guest Artist In-Residence for Madison Ballet.

During the intermission of both performances, there will be a Nutcracker Costume Contest!
