Home to stage and screen entertainment of all varieties, Downtown Bozeman’s Ellen Theatre is also the perfect venue to catch a show by touring musical acts and more. Here’s a look at who’s coming up this month.
First up, Damn Tall Buildings are set for a Friday, March 1st show. Visiting from New York, the music will begin at 7:30pm. All seats are $24.
In their early days, the Brooklyn-based project didn’t rehearse – they busked. Now, whether live or on record, the band still radiates the energy of a ragtag crew of music students playing bluegrass on the street. But anchoring that energy is their instrumental chops, their strong songwriting, and their varied influences that stretch beyond bluegrass, even beyond American roots music altogether. Whether sharing lead vocals and instrumental solos or blending their voices into loose, joyous harmony, the four members of Damn Tall Buildings blend elements of bluegrass, blues, roots-rock, and vintage swing to create a captivating, high-energy sound.
Following on Saturday, March 9th, Lúnasa takes the stage at 7:30pm. All seats are $34.
Named for an ancient Celtic harvest festival in honor of the Irish god Lugh, patron of the arts, Lúnasa is indeed a gathering of some of the top musical talents in Ireland. Its members have helped form the backbone of some of the greatest Irish groups of the decade. The Irish Voice called them “The hottest Irish acoustic band on the planet,” while Folk Roots magazine rightly termed them an “Irish music dream team.”
Visiting from New York, the world-famous Glenn Miller Orchestra returns to the Ellen on Friday, March 22nd. Music begins at 7:30pm with $22 tickets available for all seats.
They’re back for a night of jump, jive and great music, sure to put you “In the Mood” for a good time. This 19-piece powerhouse group travels the globe, performing over 300 concerts per year, and will take the audience on a sentimental journey to a time when big bands were king and music was swing. Selections for the evening will be a string of hits, each one of them a pearl, from the Glenn Miller Songbook including “Little Brown Jug,” “Moonlight Serenade,” “Chattanooga Choo-Choo,” “I’ve Got a Gal in Kalamazoo,” “Tuxedo Junction” and many more. Remember to bring your dancin’ shoes as there will be room to ‘cut a rug’ during the show.
Scottish multi-piece Skerryvore are set to entertain on Saturday, March 23rd at 7:30pm. All seats are $32.
Bringing their performances to audiences across the globe, the band’s wide range of influences and talent produce a musically expansive, high energy set that excites and captivates audiences. With a mix of fiddle, accordions, pipes and whistles, alongside guitar and vocals, underpinned by driving bass, drums and keys, Skerryvore represent the best in contemporary Scottish traditional music. Their studio releases demonstrate the wide range of influences the individual musicians bring to the mix – a unique fusion of folk, trad, rock and Americana, with even some jazz thrown in.
Late this month, British quartet Stringfever perform on Saturday, March 30th. Show starts at 7:30pm. All seats are $32.
Featuring classy musicianship, comedy timing and a contemporary sound, a performance by the four-piece is a little bit classical, a little bit rock n’ roll, humorous and a whole lot entertaining. Their shows include live electric strings and beatbox with eclectic renditions of numerous classical favorites, rock classics and movie themes, among others. They even team up for Ravel’s Boléro, performed on one instrument at the same time. Don’t miss this show as part of their North American tour!
Wine, beer and concessions will be sold in the lobby one hour before the show. Ticketing and further information about other upcoming happenings is available at www.theellentheatre.org. For additional inquiries, call the box office at (406) 585-5885. •
