Home to entertainment of all varieties, Downtown Bozeman’s Ellen Theatre is also the perfect venue to catch a show by touring musical acts and more. Here’s a look at who’s on the calendar.
Enjoy a night of Irish bluegrass with JigJam on Friday, March 7th. Show starts at 7:30pm. All seats are $32.
When virtuoso Irish playing jumps the pond running through the wide open fields of bluegrass/Americana, JigJam is born. Bluegrass and American folk music originated from the group’s home, and now the band is taking it back. Foot stomping, high energy fun is what you’re in for with this musical powerhouse live in concert.
Founding members from Offaly – Jamie McKeogh (lead singer, guitar) and Daithi Melia (5-string banjo, dobro) are joined by Tipperary-born Gavin Strappe (mandolin, tenor banjo). Hopping aboard for their current tour is Kevin Buckley (fiddle) to make up this iGrass (Irish Bluegrass) quartet. Described as “The best Irish band in bluegrass” and “sparkling, infectious,” these lads have been hailed as “Ireland’s answer to New Grass Revival.”
Returning to the Ellen on Wednesday, March 19th, is the California Guitar Trio. The performance begins at 7:30pm. All seats are $38.50.
Since 1991, the group has enthralled listeners with a singular sound that fearlessly crisscrosses genres. The trio’s questing spirit drives it to explore the intersections between rock, jazz, classical and world music. It even throws in the occasional surf or spaghetti Western tune for good measure! In addition to dazzling musicianship and interplay, the trio’s shows are full of captivating stories and humor that enable concertgoers to feel like they’re part of the music. The group’s goal is to transcend their instruments, so people focus on the music first, and its considerable technical prowess a distant second.
Looking to a new month, the Second String Orchestra deliver a complimentary performance on Saturday, April 5th. The music begins at 7pm.
The ensemble will perform Dvorak’s 9th Symphony. Their dedicated group of adult amateur musicians, led by Dr. Matthew Makeever, offers this free musical experience to the community. Bring the whole family to the beautiful Ellen Theatre for a night of live classical music.
Wine, beer and concessions will be sold in the lobby one hour before the show. Ticketing and further information about other upcoming happenings is available at www.theellentheatre.org. For additional inquiries, call the box office at (406) 585-5885. •
