Ellen stage in bloom with can’t-miss nights of music
Downtown Bozeman’s Ellen Theatre is home to stage and screen entertainment of all varieties, but it’s also a great place to catch a show by touring musicians. Here’s a look who you’ll be grooving to in the coming weeks.
Bon Debarras performs on Friday, May 6th at 7:30pm. Through guitar, banjo, violin and harmonica, the trio fuses Quebecois folk music, traditional step-dancing and global influences for an energetic show that transcends boundaries and ages. All seats are $22.25.
Legendary cowboy singing group Sons of the Pioneers are set for Sunday, May 8th at 7:30pm. Members of the Country Music Hall of Fame, the band is praised by the Grand Ole Opry as “American icons known around the world for their trademark harmonies and haunting lyrics that tell the story of the American West.” All seats are $28.50.
World-renowned guitarist John Jorgenson and his bluegrass band, J2B2, return to the Ellen on Wednesday, May 11th at 7:30pm. Considered by the Los Angeles Times as “one of the most respected guitarists in the world,” Jorgenson’s all-star bluegrass supergroup also features legendary, award-winning musicians Herb Pedersen, Mark Fain and Patrick Sauber. “It would not be a stretch to call J2B2 a Dream Team of string musicians.” – The Patriot Ledger. All seats are $29.50.
Famed guitarists Martin Taylor and Bruce Forman follow with a show on Friday, May 13th at 7:30pm. The Grammy-nominated Taylor is a virtuoso guitarist, composer and musical innovator. He is widely considered to be the world’s foremost exponent of solo jazz and fingerstyle guitar playing. Considered by Jazz Times as “one of the great lights of our age,” Forman is a seasoned jazz player admired for his soulful, lyrical melodies, and inventive harmonies. All seats are $28.
Finally, the Second String Orchestra delivers its Spring Concert to audiences on Sunday, May 22nd at 7pm. Led by violinist and Bozeman Symphony concertmaster Carrie Krause, the diverse program will feature vocal soloist Elizabeth Croy, and arrangements including a premiere by local composer Eric Funk. The performance will also include pieces by Rachmaninoff, Copeland, Brubeck and Moussorgsky. This concert is free and open to the public.
