Doig Center sponsors March 24 online forum about ‘Shakespeare in Montana’
From MSU News Service
BOZEMAN – Montana State University English professor Gretchen Minton and Kevin Brustuen will discuss Shakespeare and theater in Montana at “Shakespeare in the Treasure State: From Archives to Outdoor Performances,” a free online forum set for 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 24. Sponsored by the Ivan Doig Center for the Study of the Lands and Peoples of the North American West at MSU, the presentation can be accessed via a link at the center’s website, montana.edu/doig.
Minton is the author of “Shakespeare in Montana,” which recently was named winner of the 2020 Montana Book Award. Minton and Brustuen, Minton’s husband who partnered with her during family research trips for the book, will describe how archival research for the book led to interesting information about Montana’s long love affair with Shakespeare. They will also discuss how the research for that book project became a key inspiration for their theater company, Montana InSite Theatre. The company creates live theater and film performances inspired by classical texts in specific locations.
