Do Good, Be Good, Feel Good with Higher Ground

Simply by driving or walking thru Higher Ground coffee hut, you are significantly impacting hunger in our valley. Higher Ground is your “GFC,” or guilt-free coffee spot – every third cup sold buys a meal at the Fork & Spoon Homestyle Kitchen. Feel good about your morning indulgence and know you’re “doing good” just by choosing Higher Ground.
Quality products from local vendors are a key ingredient at Higher Ground. Bold, smooth Ghost Town Coffee is brewed fresh each morning; soothing Tumblewood Teas are prepared gently and with love; lavender and rosemary Roots Kitchen syrups are their current obsession, and their authentic Indian spicy chai uses a recipe passed down for three generations.
Higher Ground’s breakfast burritos, which many customers claim are the best in town, use locally-sourced ingredients. In addition, the burritos are hand-made at Fork & Spoon. “Our products are made with love” said Tirza Asbell, Higher Ground Coffee Operations Coordinator. “We are grateful for each and every one of our customers and want to make sure we help them have a great start to their day knowing that just driving through is making an impact!”
Beyond the beverages, Higher Ground also provides vocational training for young adults and HRDC customers looking for an opportunity to enter the workforce and gain real-life job skills. Their trainees’ work side by side with professional baristas learning customer service, time management, working in a fast paced environment and building a resume of skills to take with them when they are ready to enter the local workforce.
“Higher Ground is awesome, I love being a part of it! The work I do and the skills I am learning will help me in all my future jobs,” said Kaden Luna, a participant in HRDC’s Youth Development program and Higher Ground Trainee. “I also feel good that my work at Higher Ground is part of something bigger by supporting Fork & Spoon,” he added.
Higher Ground is located in the parking lot of the Fork & Spoon Homestyle Kitchen, a unique pay-what-you can restaurant on North Seventh Avenue owned and operated by local nonprofit HRDC. Higher Ground coffee hut is a social enterprise, encouraging charitable giving through business.
Located at 302 North 7th, Higher Ground is open Monday – Saturday. To learn more, drive thru today or visit www.higherground.coffee. •
