Divine choral concert precedes Symphony’s Brahms-centric program
Ahead of its next seasonal program, Bozeman Symphony will present choral concert “Elements of Life” on November 12th and 14th at Holy Rosary Church. The Friday performance will be held at 7pm, then again on Sunday at 3pm. Jon Harney will conduct.
The celebration of choral music highlights faith, music, love and the joys of daily living, in works by Z. Randall Stroope, Bruckner, Pärt, Whitacre and Whitbourn, among others. This introspective program features heavenly harmonies, like those found in Paul Manz’s E’en So, Lord, Jesus, Quickly Come, and Stroope’s Os Justi (The Mouth of the Righteous). Don’t miss this transcendent collection of pieces and joyful surprises in the beautiful acoustic setting of Holy Rosary Church in Bozeman.
Following Nov. 20th and 21st is the third program in Bozeman Symphony’s new season. “Brahms Symphony No. 2” will feature guest artist Demondrae Thurman on euphonium. Thurman joins music director Norman Huynh and the Symphony Orchestra in Willson Auditorium. The music begins at 7:30pm and 2:30pm, respectfully.
The performances open with Antonín Dvorák’s riveting Carnival Overture followed with an orchestra world premiere of Anthony Barfield’s Heritage Concerto. Huynh’s incredibly talented friend and former professor joins on euphonium. The concert builds to a wistful and elegant end with Johannes Brahms stunning Symphony No. 2.
Demondrae Thurman is considered one of the stars of the formidable generation of brass soloists. His euphonium playing has been described as “awe inspiring,” having a firm international reputation as a euphonium soloist with visits to Europe, Asia and throughout North America.
Thurman is also an active chamber musician. He plays first euphonium and trombone in the highly regarded Sotto Voce Quartet, which tours extensively. A soloist as well, he has released numerous recordings featuring his Miraphone 5050 Ambassador “Edition” euphonium, which was designed specifically for him.
Currently, Thurman is Associate Professor of Music at Samford University where he teaches low brass, conducts the Wind Ensemble, and serves as Director of Graduate Studies.
