The Robert and Gennie DeWeese Gallery is hosting a closing reception for the exhibition “Convergence | Divergence“, work by Wyoming sculptor Jason Lanka and students from Sheridan Community College. In addition to the works in the gallery, Lanka installed a site specific piece which creates a site line cutting across the landscape just north of the intersection of Main and 11th ave.
The exhibition and site specific installation will be on display through April 15th. A closing reception will be held April 15th from 5:00-7:00pm.
In discussing the works, Lanka states “Creativity is a reactionary event, where an individual responds to a given stimulus to create a new dialogue that expands his or her understanding of the primary stimulus”. Lanka says that “the student works exhibited in this space exemplify their unique creative response to my conceptual endeavors.”
Lanka’s own works are created with the intention of addressing “the demarcation of our species’ relationship with the land”. He notes that “Our identity as people and a nation are so often defined by our place within our environment and how we view our relationship with the natural world.
As always the Robert and Gennie DeWeese gallery is free and open to the public Mon-Fri 9am-3pm. Parking is located past the main entrance to Bozeman High School in the lot on the west side of 11th ave.
