Danny Sprinkle Era Kicks-Off
By Danny Waldo
The Danny Sprinkle Era of Bobcat Basketball has officially begun.
The Montana State men’s basketball team hosted their first preseason practice on September 25th in preparation for the season opener at Utah State on November 4th.
MSU returns a trio of starters in seniors Harald Frey and Ladan Ricketts, as well as junior Devin Kirby. Frey earned Second Team All-Big Sky a season ago after averaging over 17 points and 5 assists per game. Ricketts added scoring support from the perimeter, hitting on 45 perfect from the three-point line, and Kirby was a mainstay in the lineup, starting all 32 contests for the Blue and Gold. Zeke Quinlan and Quentin Guliford both saw limited action last season, but return to add experience to an otherwise inexperienced group of new comers.
Four freshman join four transfers to round out the Bobcat roster, and with so many new additions, playing time will be up for grabs in the early part of the season.
“It’ll be exciting and eye-opening for a lot of the newcomers,” head coach Danny Sprinkle said. “It’ll be better because we have more hours to watch film. You only get a certain amount of time, so we’ve been trying to have great pace on the court and just trying to throw a lot at these guys. Now we’ve got to build on it.”
The Bobcats will partner with the Lady ‘Cats to host a family event in October where fans can get their first look at this year’s squads. More information will be announced as the event gets closer.
MSU also recently released the start times for all Montana State men’s basketball home games, and those times can be seen by logging onto www.msubobcats.com.
MSU will kick-off the 2019-20 season by hosting an exhibition game on October 30th versus Yellowstone Christian. The ‘Cats first official home game will be on November 9th versus Rocky Mountain College.
