Curious Incident wraps at Verge ahead of teen-tacular Into the Woods
Burrr is right! Head indoors and warm up with some fantastic stage entertainment at Verge Theater. Here’s a look at what’s happening at “The Little Black Box on the Edge (of Bozeman).”
There’s but one final weekend of Simon Stephens’ The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time. Based on the novel by Mark Haddon, performances run through November 3rd.
Fifteen-year-old Christopher has an extraordinary brain: He is exceptional at mathematics but ill-equipped to interpret everyday life (he has Asperger’s Syndrome). He has never ventured alone beyond the end of his road, he detests being touched, and he distrusts strangers. Now it is 7 minutes after midnight, and Christopher stands beside his neighbor’s dead dog, Wellington, who has been speared with a garden fork. Finding himself under suspicion, Christopher is determined to solve the mystery of who murdered Wellington, and he carefully records each fact of the crime. But his detective work, forbidden by his father, takes him on a thrilling journey that upturns his world.
Final performances of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time will be held Friday and Saturday, November 1st and 2nd, at 8pm. A closing Sunday matinee will follow on Nov. 3rd at 3pm. Tickets are $19. Ages 17+.
Opening November 8th, the legendary Teen Theater family has announced this fall’s musical extravaganza, Into the Woods. Verge’s middle and high school teens have come together to present this epic fairytale musical about wishes, family and the choices we make.
James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone’s favorite Brothers Grimm storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless, yet relevant, piece… and a rare modern classic. The Tony Award-winning book and score are both enchanting and touching.
The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King’s Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break it. Everyone’s wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.
One of Sondheim’s most popular works, Into the Woods is a musically sophisticated show with the opportunity to feature actors adept at dark comedy. Designers will especially enjoy highlighting the fantastical elements of this magical word.
Into the Woods comes to Verge November 8th through 16th. Performances will be held on Friday and Saturday evenings at 7pm. Two Saturday matinees begin at 3pm. Tickets are $12. All ages.
And as always, belly up to the all-you-can-eat comedy buffet with Improv on the Verge! They pair the fun and energy of short-form games (like you see on the popular tv show Whose Line Is It Anyway?) with long-form scenes in which they create hilarious characters and storylines on the spot. Head down for a new, fun-filled show twice monthly. Cheap thrills for your laugh hole! Upcoming shows are set for November 4th and 18th at 7pm. Tickets are $9. Ages 17+.
