Summer in the Gallatin Valley just got a lot more musical. From July 10th through July 26th, Montana TheatreWorks presents the Broadway classic The Music Man at The Ellen Theatre. Celebrating 32 years of summer musicals, this year promises to be one most joyful and biggest productions to date.
Under the expert guidance of guest director and choreographer from Los Angeles Roger Castellano, this classic work of musical Americana features a powerhouse cast of 42 talented singers and dancers, backed by a dynamic 18-piece live orchestra.
At the heart of the production are two incredible stars with credits from New York and regional theatres across the country. Mr. Alan Wager (Broadway’s Beauty and the Beast; Henry Higgins, My Fair Lady; Albert, Bye Bye Birdie) steps into the fast-talking shoes of the charismatic con man, Professor Harold Hill. Joining the cast as the sharp-witted Marian the Librarian is gifted singer Sarah Elizabeth Combs with an impressive resume that includes Christine, Phantom of the Opera; Maria, The Sound of Music; and Cosette, Les Misérables, to name a few.

When Harold rolls into River City to scam the locals into buying instruments for a fake boys’ band, he doesn’t count on falling for Marian – or the town itself. What follows is a heartwarming, funny, and deeply moving story about redemption, small-town pride, and the power of second chances.
“Whether you’ve loved these songs for decades or are hearing ‘Seventy-Six Trombones’ for the very first time, this show is pure magic,” says Montana TheatreWorks producer John Ludin. “With our guest artists, phenomenal cast and orchestra, sparkling choreography, and sure-fire story, we’re excited to bring to life this spectacular show right here on The Ellen stage.”
