The Bozeman Public Library offers more than just a vast selection of books, periodicals, and movies to its many pass-holders. The staff is excited to host a number of live music and other events throughout the month. So when you’re not getting lost in the stacks, come check out one of these fun events at your community sponsored Library. A new exhibit of paintings by Livingston, Montana, artist Sheila Hrasky will be on display in the Atrium Gallery at the Bozeman Public Library January 2nd through February 29th, kicking off the Library’s 2016 Artist’s Series. The exhibit is sponsored by the Bozeman Public Library Foundation which will be hosting an Artist Reception, with refreshments, on Friday, January 8th from 6-7:30pm.
This reception is free and open to the public. A plein air and studio painter, Hrasky has been focused on taking a subject, whether a landscape or a life figure, and then deconstructing, reshaping and re-contextualizing it through classic shapes of musical instruments, expressing light, energy and motion. Inspired by Kandinsky and Picasso’s cubist style, music has become a very important part of Hrasky’s recent work. “The biggest reward is watching the work unfold,” she says, “Day after day I push myself as a painter to create new images. Developing my own way of painting has taken many years to refine.” The exhibition will be on display during Library hours. A percentage of sales will go to the Foundation to ensure continuation of cultural programs at the Library for public benefit. For more information about the exhibit or opening reception, please call Sarah DeOpsomer at 582-2425 or e-mail programs@-bozemanlibraryfoundation. Join in on Tuesday, January 12th from 6:45-8:30pm for Yoga for Healthy Aging with Nancy Ruby from YogaMotion. There’s no way around it–if you are living, you are aging. Rather than striving for anti-aging remedies that tend to deny the natural course of life, learn how yoga will help you embrace the art of aging with grace and wisdom through building muscle and bone strength, improving flexibility and range of motion, bolstering balance and agility, diminishing stress and insomnia, enhancing brain and heart health, and much more. It is not about stopping or reversing the process of aging, but about enjoying a longer health span of independence and equanimity. This one-time class will set you up for our weekly free yoga classes offered by the Library Foundation. Appropriate for all ages and abilities. Wear comfy street clothes.
