‘Cat fans can beat Griz off the field, too!
The Can the Griz Food Drive returns in 2021 with its 22nd annual event. The friendly off-field competition between Montana State University and the University of Montana, along with their communities, is put on every year to see who can collect the most donations for their local food banks. Beginning Saturday, November 6th, the competition runs through Saturday, Nov. 20th. A winner will be announced during the game on Nov. 20th.
Last year, MSU and the Bozeman community donated 150,290 pounds of food plus $252,893 to the Gallatin Valley Food Bank. The UM and Missoula community also raised a record amount, a grand total of 671,707 in pounds and money for the Missoula Food Bank. All of the Gallatin Valley food collected remains in the area and is used to support our friends, neighbors, and our kids’ classmates.
Can the Griz organizers ask that nonperishable food donations be dropped off at collection locations throughout Bozeman to support those Gallatin County residents in need. A complete list of donation sites can be found at www.canthegriz.com.
Monetary donations can also be made directly to the Gallatin Valley Food Bank by visiting the aforementioned website and clicking “donate.” For every dollar donated, 1 pound of food will be added to the final tally.
Finally, participants are invited to promote the drive on social media by posting a picture of themselves donating along with the hashtag #CanTheGriz.
Can the Griz is coordinated by the MSU Office of Student Engagement and the Gallatin Valley Food Bank. Call (406) 994-2933 or email canthegriz@montana.edu for further information. Go ‘Cats Go! •
