Bozeman Public Library, in partnership with Mammoth Marketing, has unveiled a new logo design intended to reflect the evolving services of the modern public library.
Bozeman, MT – In conjunction with its 10th anniversary at the East Main Street location, the Bozeman Public Library is unveiling a new logo that is designed to reflect the evolving services of the modern public library.
The new logo was created by Mammoth Marketing in partnership with Vega Creations and the Bozeman Public Library. Doug Weber, who led the project, was selected for his past work in developing the Library’s marketing strategy and the “It’s Happening . . . @BPL” marketing campaign.
The project was funded by the Bozeman Public Library Foundation and the Friends of the Bozeman Public Library both of which are adopting variations on the new logo.
“The design invites a fresh look at what the Library is and also starts a discussion about what the community can and should expect from the Bozeman Public Library,“ said Susan Gregory, Director of the Bozeman Public Library. “Books and information are at the heart of what we do, but we offer so much more from concerts to classes to being a community gathering place. We wanted a logo that would communicate energy, creativity, exploration and fun – which are all characteristics of a thriving public library.”
From a variety of concepts, a Library committee gravitated to the paper airplane which was gradually refined to the final logo design. The logo is accompanied by a new color palette and updated typography.
The appeal of the paper airplane concept is that it can mean different things to different people much in the way that people experience and use the Library in different ways. Additionally, it evokes feelings and ideas such as flight, whimsy, lightness, joy, experimentation, and approachability. The upward motion of the plane is intentional and represents optimism and the notion that public libraries uplift the communities they serve.
“The first step in the design process was to capture the values and vision of the Bozeman Public Library,” remarked Weber. “Creativity, joy, community, learning, innovation, and collaboration were just some of the ideas that were used to describe the Library and what it offers the community.”
