Emerson-headquartered Ice Fest celebrates climbing & alpine recreation
The Bozeman Ice Festival returns to Southwest Montana with its 23rd annual event, Wednesday through Sunday, December 11th–15th. Events will include the Adventure Film Festival, special presentations, as well as Aprés Climb every night with swag raffles, Bridger Brewing’s signature brew, local grub and mingling, among so much more! Here’s a look at a few of the highlights.
The Adventure Film Festival comes to the Crawford Theater at the Emerson Center for the Arts & Culture, Thursday, Dec. 12th with an exciting and eagerly anticipated film slate. Screening at 7:30pm are three films that capture the spirit of climbing: Parallel Passions, Adaptive and Himalayan Ice. Further film details are available through the event website. Film Fest general admission is $12.
Highlighting the Ice Fest will be two evening presentations at the Emerson. On Friday, Dec. 13th, “Skiing the Dream Couloir” will feature North Face athletes Hilaree Nelson and Jim Morrison discussing their attempt of a ski descent of Lhotse, the fourth highest mountain in the world. “Alpinism on the Edge of Dreams” follows on Saturday, Dec. 14th featuring world-class alpinist Ines Papert. She will share stories from climbs all around the world, from Piz Badile and Grande Jorasses in the Alps, to “Lost in China” on Kyzyl Asker and an attempt of a new route on the south face of Shishapangma in the Himalya, as well as recent route development in the Canadian Rockies. Both presentations begin at 7:30pm. General admission is $15 for each.
Ice Fest passes as well as tickets for individual events are on sale now at www.bozemanicefest.com, where you can also find further festival information and detailed schedule.
The 23rd Annual Bozeman Ice Climbing Festival is presented by Black Diamond Equipment. It is the signature event of the Ice Climbing Alliance, a Montana nonprofit dedicated to promoting and preserving access and quality climbing experiences in Hyalite Canyon and beyond. •
