In collaboration with GVLT, Baroque Music Montana will present the annual “Bach at Trails” pop-up performances at Gallatin Valley Trails in celebration of the outdoors, arts and community. Music will be provided by musicians of all ages, abilities and instruments. The event will be held on Sunday, June 8th at Lindley Park, Langhor Park near the climbing boulder, Peets Hill, Tuckerman Park and the South Cottonwood trailhead. Music will be performed from 12:15–1:15pm.
Following on Wednesday, June 18th, BMM presents “The Thistle” for its backyard event featuring baroque and folk music from Cape Breton, Acadia, Scotland and original tunes inspired by these traditions. The music begins at 6pm.
Fiddler David Greenberg returns with long-time collaborator, wooden flutist & piper Chris Norman, to curate this program, with appearance by local baroque violinist Carrie Krause. Greenberg has recorded over 80 albums, co-authored an influential treatise on Cape Breton fiddling, and performed with many of the world’s most esteemed ensembles from the Far East to New Zealand. Norman specializes in the wooden flute and Scottish smallpipes, has appeared with revered ensembles from the Renaissance to rock traditions, and his playing was featured on the movie Titanic. ‘Backyard Baroque,’ at 500 Black Bear Road, takes place outdoors – picnics welcome, lawn seating recommended, and beverages available.
Finally, BMM and Raison D’être Dance Project will team to present “High Places 2025” featuring a mountaintop performance on Monday, June 23rd. Scale Mount Edith in the Big Belts for the 11am performance. Dancer Genevieve Trygstad-Burke and violinist Carrie Krause will present the Bach Chaconne for solo violin and a piece newly composed for these performances, “Ascent,” by local composer Athena Carson.
Future events include Sacagawea Peak in the Bridger Mountains on July 16th at 6pm, and Hollowtop Mountain on August 27th at 11am. Attendees assume their own risk and meet at the top for each performance time. Contact BMM for additional peaks and dates, as well as performance times at water near each summit.
