BMM presents quartets from the Bach family to Mendelssohn
Baroque Music Montana will present “Sara Levy’s Salon” with two local performances this month. The first will take place Friday, January 7th at Bozeman’s Resurrection University Parish. A Livingston presentation follows on Sunday, Jan. 9th at the Waddle House. The intimate showcases will begin at 7:30pm and 3pm, respectively.
An international cast of musicians present works from 19th century Berlin’s most cachet living room, in celebration of the brilliant female musician Sara Levy. Repertoire includes Mendelssohn’s Quartet Op 80, Bach’s Art of the Fugue, plus a fugue by
young Bozeman composer Athena Carson.
Participating musicians include Carrie Krause and Davina Clarke, violins, Lindsey Strand-Polyak, viola, Sarah Stone, cello, and Athena Carson, composer. These performances are sponsored by Connie Cranston.
Admission for the Bozeman performance is $30 general or $5 for students. There is no fee for admission to the Livingston performance, but space is limited and advance reservations are required. Ticketing information for the local concerts, as well as other regional performances, is available at www.baroquemusicmo
Baroque Music Montana specializes in chamber music inspired by history. The musician roster rotates based on desired instrumentation for repertoire. Concerts are held in intimate spaces, for which the music was originally intended, and often on period instruments. Using historical instruments and referencing original manuscripts, iconography, and historical writing fuels Baroque Music Montana’s commitment to the music and inspires fresh interpretation. Rather than recreating something old, the aim is to make each performance of this day, of this space, existing because of these musicians and this audience. •
