In celebration of their album release, Baroque Music Montana will present companion program “I Melt Like Snow in the Sun of Your Beauty” with a special local performance this month as part of its regional tour. It will take place Friday, January 9th, at Bozeman’s Hope Lutheran Church. The intimate showcase begins at 4pm.
The program features passionate sacred and profane love songs from the early 1600s with Portland-based soprano Arwen Meyers, along with instrumental flights of fancy performed by Carrie Krause on baroque violin, John Lenti on theorbo, and Nate Helgeson on dulcian, a precursor to the bassoon. Repertoire includes works by Palestrina, Marini, Selma and Monteverdi, among others.

The Bozeman performance follows the Jan. 8th release of their sophomore album of the same name. Meaningful as representative of the unique music BMM is able to bring to the rural northern Rocky Mountain region, it also contributes to the early music and music recording canon given the unusual repertoire and compelling instrumentation. Recorded at the prestigious Tippet Rise Arts Center in Fishtail, Montana, the album has been made available in several digital and physical formats.
Admission for the Bozeman performance is $32 general or $5 for students. An additional performance will precede in Helena, as well as shows in Billings, Columbus, Red Lodge and Cody, Wyoming. Ticketing information for the local concert, as well as other regional performances, is available at www.baroquemusicmontana.com.
Baroque Music Montana specializes in chamber music inspired by history. The musician roster rotates based on desired instrumentation for repertoire. Concerts are held in intimate spaces, for which the music was originally intended, and often on period instruments. Using historical instruments and referencing original manuscripts, iconography and historical writing fuels Baroque Music Montana’s commitment to the music and inspires fresh interpretation. Rather than recreating something old, the aim is to make each performance of this day, of this space, existing because of these musicians and this audience. •
