The stage is set as Livingston’s Blue Slipper Theatre presents the next production in its new season with Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright David Auburn’s Summer, 1976 this month. Performances are set for February 20th through March 1st. Friday and Saturday shows will begin at 7:30pm, with Sunday matinees to follow at 3pm. The local production is directed by Ron Judkins.
Summer, 1976 is a poignant, intimate two-character play about an unlikely friendship between two women in suburban Ohio during the summer of America’s Bicentennial. One is a young, idealistic artist seeking independence and creative purpose, the other is a devoted wife and mother quietly questioning the boundaries of her own life. As their paths cross, the women form a deep and unexpected bond that challenges their assumptions about art, love, family and personal fulfillment.

Told through direct address and shifting perspectives, the play blends humor, nostalgia and emotional depth to explore moments of self-discovery and the lasting impact of relationships that may only exist for a brief season. Summer, 1976 is a tender reflection on growth, choice, and the small encounters that can alter the course of a life.
Tickets for Summer, 1976 are $20 for general admission, or $15 for seniors/students/military and are available at www.blueslipper.org. Seating at the Blue Slipper, located at 113 E Callender, is limited. Please call (406) 222-7720 for more information. •
