Livingston’s Blue Slipper Theatre presents the first production of its new season with Laura Wade’s Home, I’m Darling this month. Performances are set for October 4th–13th. Friday and Saturday shows will begin at 8pm, with Sunday matinees to follow at 3pm. The local production is directed by Denise Hergett.
Everything is perfect for Judy and Johnny – the house is tidy, food is on the table, and Judy’s dress is perfectly pressed when she greets Johnny at the door, martini in hand. It’s the 1950s and life is ordered just right.
Or is it? Quickly the edges of this perfect life start to unravel, and things are not quite what they seem. Gender roles, relationships and more are examined, explored and exploded in this dark comedy about sex, cake and the quest to be the perfect 1950s couple.
Debuting in the summer of 2018, a reviewer for Time Out called the play “…very well put together, with full-bodied characters, sub-plots and back-stories, plenty of amusingly astute lines, and a good slug of social commentary.” The Guardian called it “…a timely analysis of the gender divide, which manages to ask important questions about what women might want and how they might successfully find it.”
Tickets for Home, I’m Darling are $20 or $15 for students/seniors and are available at www.blueslipper.org. Seating at the Blue Slipper, located at 113 E Callender St, is limited. Please call (406) 222-7720 for more information. •
