Area parents are encouraged to bring their young children to a dynamic, fun and entertaining bilingual Symphony Storytime with a violinist at the Bozeman Public Library’s Community Room during their regular Toddler and Preschool Storytime on Wednesday, February 21st, at 10:15am.
The free program presented by the Bozeman Symphony is especially for children ages 3 to 5. Children will be able to listen to Señorita Mariposa read by World Language Initiative’s Big Sky program coordinator and native Spanish speaker Zeta Zúñiga who will be accompanied by violinist Guillermo Alvarez.
Señorita Mariposa, written by Ben Gundensheimer, is a rhyming story in Spanish and English that illustrates the journey of monarchs and the diverse people and places they pass during their migration. As Zúñiga reads, Alvarez will play musical accompaniment. Following the story, he’ll also play a brief piece that highlights the violin. Señorita Mariposa is illustrated by Marcos Almada Rivero, Penguin Random House published it.
The goal of the program is to encourage a love of music, literacy and discovery, according to Education and Community Engagement Coordinator Cierra Wallace. Collaborating with various community partners, the Symphony wants to expose children to a diverse selection of stories, cultures, authors, narrative styles, readers, instruments, music and musicians. Students at Bozeman HRDC Head Start will hear the story on the same day.
Future Symphony Storytime programs are scheduled at the Library and Head Start on March 20th, April 10th and June 12th. For more information, visit www.bozemansymphony.org or call (406) 585-9774. •
