Local youth will front a sun-drenched island musical late this month. Featuring a talented cast of student actors, Bozeman High School Hawks Theatre Company will present Mamma Mia! It will be presented over six performances from April 24th through May 3rd. Friday and Saturday shows will begin at 7pm, with a 2pm matinee on Sunday. All will be held in the BHS auditorium.
Mamma Mia! is a joyful, high-energy stage musical built around the timeless pop songs of ABBA. Set on a picturesque Greek island, the story follows Sophie, a young bride-to-be who secretly invites three men from her mother Donna’s past in hopes of discovering which one is her father. As Donna, a fiercely independent former singer, prepares for her daughter’s wedding, she is unexpectedly confronted with memories of her youth, old romances, and the life she left behind. The arrival of the three men sparks confusion, nostalgia, and comedic chaos as past and present collide.

Through its vibrant score and lighthearted storytelling, the musical explores themes of love, identity, friendship, and self-discovery. Classic hits like “Dancing Queen,” “Super Trouper” and “Take a Chance on Me” are seamlessly woven into the narrative, giving emotional depth and playful energy to the characters’ journeys. Ultimately, Mamma Mia! is less about solving the mystery of Sophie’s parentage and more about celebrating relationships in all their forms – especially the enduring bond between mother and daughter – leaving audiences with a sense of warmth, laughter, and irresistible musical joy.
The play is suitable for all ages. General Mamma Mia! admission is $20, $15 for students and $10 for youth, available in advance at bsd7.revtrak.net (click “Drama” > “BHS Drama”). Tickets available at the box office as space allows. The April 26th performance will be presented in sing-along format.
