Bozeman Film Society continues its latest season with documentary The American Southwest on Wednesday, October 15th. The event will be held at Downtown Bozeman’s Ellen Theatre at 7pm.
Take a wild and unforgettable journey down the mighty Colorado River. Narrated by Quannah Chasinghorse, the film beautifully showcases the region’s abundant wildlife, confronts the ecological impacts of dams and river depletion, and boldly advocates for increased water and wildlife conservation.
The Fin and Fur Films production travels through legendary landscapes from the viewpoint of some of the Southwest’s most charming characters – such as wetland-building beavers, bugling bull elk and desert-adapted rattlesnakes. Made in association with Natives Outdoors, The American Southwest highlights the region’s deep cultural history and the crucial need to better manage the river for both wildlife and society to thrive.
Written and directed by Ben Masters, the film is Rated G. A Q&A with assistant editor Chet Stefan will follow the screening.
Following on Wednesday, October 29th, catch an Ellen screening of music doc continuation Spinal Tap II: The End Continues. The film begins at 7pm.
Forty-one years after the release of the groundbreaking mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap, the now estranged bandmates David St. Hubbins, Nigel Tufnel and Derek Smalls, are forced to reunite for one final concert. Spinal Tap II also marks the resurrection of documentarian Marty Di Bergi (Rob Reiner), who once again tries to capture his favorite metal gods as they contemplate mortality – and the hope that their 12th drummer doesn’t join them in The Great Beyond. Joined by music royalty Paul McCartney and Elton John, Spinal Tap wrestles with their checkered past to put on a concert that they hope will solidify their place in the pantheon of rock n’ roll.
Rated R, the film has a runtime of 83 min and also stars Michael McKean, Christopher Guest, Harry Shearer, Fran Drescher, Paul Shaffer, Questlove and Chris Addison.
“As funny as they are loud, these metal gods have actually improved with age.” – Tara McNamara, Common Sense Media
