In collaboration w/ MT Film Fest, BFS screens Livingston-shot Wildlife- Bozeman Film Society’s special advance screening of acclaimed drama, Wildlife, at The Ellen Theatre.
On Wednesday, November 14th at 7pm, be sure to catch Bozeman Film Society’s special advance screening of acclaimed drama, Wildlife, at The Ellen Theatre. This presentation comes to Bozeman as part of the Montana Film Festival’s Roadshow Tour, which showcases Montana-made films.
Shot partly in and around Livingston, Wildlife is elegantly adapted from Pulitzer Prize-winning author Richard Ford’s 1990 novel of the same name. Carey Mulligan (Mudbound, An Education) delivers one of her finest performances to date as Jeanette, a complex woman whose self-determination and self-involvement disrupts the values and expectations of a 1960s nuclear family who live in small town Montana. When husband, Jerry, loses his job – and his sense of purpose – he decides to leave the family to fight fires on the Canadian border, forcing his wife and son to fend for themselves. Suddenly forced into the role of an adult, 14-year-old son, Joe, witnesses his mother’s struggle as she tries to keep her head above water.
Luminously shot by cinematographer Diego Garcia, Actor Paul Dano’s impressive directorial debut also stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Bill Camp and 14 year-old revelation, Ed Oxenbould. Writes New York Times film critic, Glenn Kenny, “The whole of the film is a potent collaboration in every respect, and a remarkable directorial debut.” Rated PG-13, the film runs 104 minutes. Find guest speaker information on the BFS website or Facebook.
Rescheduled to accommodate the Roadshow Tour screening of Wildlife, Glenn Close-starer The Wife moves to Friday, November 23rd at 7pm. After nearly forty years of marriage, Joan and Joe Castleman (Glenn Close and Jonathan Pryce) are complements. Where Joe is casual, Joan is elegant. Where Joe is vain, Joan is self-effacing. And where Joe enjoys his very public role as Great American Novelist, Joan pours her considerable intellect, grace, charm, and diplomacy into the private role of Great Man’s Wife. About to be awarded the Nobel Prize for his acclaimed and prolific body of work, The Wife interweaves the story of the couple’s youthful passion and ambition with a portrait of a marriage, thirty-plus years later – a lifetime’s shared compromises, secrets, betrayals, and mutual love. Writes The Guardian, “As the apparently perfect wife of a Nobel prize-winning writer, Close gives arguably her best ever performance in an adaptation of Meg Wolitzer’s novel.” Rated R, the film runs 100 minutes.
Reserved seats for Wildlife and The Wife are $9.75 for general admission and $9.25 for seniors and students (plus fees.) Tickets to BFS screenings are available online at www.theellentheatre.org, by calling (406) 585-5885, or by visiting the box office Wednesday through Saturday from 1–3pm, as well as two hours prior to any screening.
