Bozeman Film Society continues to present independent film under the Big Sky with a pair of upcoming titles. Next up, A Song Film by Kishi Bashi: Omoiyari will light up the Ellen screen on Friday, November 3rd at 7pm. Co-director Justin Taylor Smith will be on hand for the screening.
In the film, internationally acclaimed composer and songwriter K Ishibashi (professionally known as “Kishi Bashi”) embarks on a personal quest by creating his music in locations relevant to the Japanese American Incarceration during WWII. It is on this journey in which Kishi Bashi comes to terms with his own identity and uncovers a myriad of social issues that have gripping modern relevance. Omoiyari is a genre-breaking, artistic exploration that fuses history, music and the complexities of the human condition. Directed by Kishi Bashi and Smith, the film is Not Rated with a run time of 93 min.
“A stunning documentary about Kishi Bashi’s own personal journey in exploring his past as he looks for inspiration for his latest musical project.” – The AU Review
Following on Friday, November 17th, catch independent comedy Bottoms at 7pm. The screening will be held at the Ellen with the evening’s lobby donations directed to Queer Bozeman, an organization that works to connect, strengthen and grow the local LGBTQ+ community.
In this refreshingly unique comedy, two girls, PJ and Josie (played by Rachel Sennott and Ayo Edebiri), start a fight club as a way to lose their virginities to cheerleaders. And their bizarre plan works! The fight club gains traction, and soon the most popular girls in school are beating each other up in the name of self-defense. But PJ and Josie find themselves in over their heads and in need of a way out before their plan is exposed. Directed by Emma Seligman and featuring a screenplay co-written with Sennott, the film is Rated R with a run time of 88 min.
“Bottoms is well worth seeing. And, yes, it is the funniest movie of the year.” – Minneapolis Star Tribune
