Bozeman Film Society continues its season with a screening of the critically acclaimed feature, Wicked Little Letters. The event will be held at Downtown Bozeman’s Ellen Theatre on Wednesday, May 8th. Written and directed by Thea Sharrock, the film will screen at 7pm.
Based on a stranger-than-fiction true story, the film follows two neighbors: deeply-conservative local Edith Swan and rowdy Irish migrant Rose Gooding. When Edith and fellow residents start to receive wicked letters full of unintentionally hilarious profanities, foul-mouthed Rose is charged with the crime. The anonymous letters prompt a national uproar, and a trial ensues. However, as the town’s women, led by Police Officer Gladys Moss (Anjana Vasan), begin to investigate the crime themselves, they suspect that something is amiss and Rose might not be the culprit after all. Starring Olivia Colman as Edith and Jessie Buckley as Rose, the film is Rated R with a runtime of 103 min.
“The matchup of Jessie Buckley and Olivia Colman produce hilarious, go-for-broke acting fireworks in Thea Sharrock’s irresistible charmer set in a 1920s English village.” – San Jose Mercury
Following on Wednesday, May 22nd, the Ellen hosts a screening of Civil War from director Alex Garland, who also wrote the film’s screenplay. The film will be shown at 7:30pm.
In Garland’s adrenaline-fueled thrill ride through a near-future fractured America, a team of military-embedded journalists and war photographers embark on a road trip to Washington D.C. Their mission: to arrive before rebel forces storm the White House and wrest control from the President of the United States. Rated R, the ensemble cast includes Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Cailee Spaeny, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Sonoya Mizuno and Nick Offerman. The film runs 109 min.
“It’s one of the best movies of the year. And among journalists, at least, it should be one of the most-talked about.” – AZ Republic
