Bozeman Film Society continues its 2023 season with a special advance screening of music-based documentary, Little Richard: I Am Everything. The event will be held at the Emerson Center for the Arts & Culture on Tuesday, April 11th at 7pm.
Lisa Cortes’s Sundance opening night documentary about the incomparable, illustrious, explosive Richard Penniman – internationally known as Little Richard, rock n’ roll’s most dynamic forefather and icon – has its nationwide one-night premiere at the Emerson before hitting theaters on April 21st.
Through a wealth of archive and performance that brings us into Richard’s complicated inner world, the film unspools the icon’s life story with all its switchbacks and contradictions. In interviews with family, musicians and cutting-edge Black and queer scholars, the film reveals how Richard created an art form for ultimate self-expression, yet what he gave to the world he was never able to give to himself.
Throughout his life, Richard careened like a shiny cracked pinball between God, sex and rock n’ roll. The world tried to put him in a box, but Richard was an omni being who contained multitudes – he was unabashedly everything.
“The definitive documentary on a complicated icon.” – Toronto Star
Little Richard: I Am Everything screens at 7pm on April 11th at the Emerson. Reserved tickets are $12.50, or $10 for MSU students. Wine, beer and concessions will be available prior to the screening.
