BFS presents flawless recreation of comic duo in Stan & Ollie
On Wednesday, March 20th, Bozeman Film Society presents Stan & Ollie, a tribute to a pair of beloved entertainers with an affectionate look behind the scenes – and a moving look at the burdens and blessings of a creative bond. The film screens at 7pm at Downtown Bozeman’s historic Ellen Theatre.
In 1953, Laurel & Hardy, one of the world’s great comedy teams, set out on a variety hall tour of Britain. Diminished by age and with their golden era as the kings of Hollywood comedy now behind them, they face an uncertain future. As the charm and beauty of their performances shines through, they re-connect with their adoring fans. The tour becomes a hit, but Stan (Steve Coogan) and Ollie (John C. Reilly) can’t quite shake the specter of Laurel and Hardy’s past; the long-buried ghosts, coupled with Oliver’s failing health, start to threaten their precious partnership.
Virtually unrecognizable in their delightful homage, “…the film becomes truly transcendent in the hands of John C. Reilly and Steve Coogan, who play Ollie and Stan with intelligence and spirit that go beyond their own uncanny physical performances” writes Ann Hornaday, Washington Post film critic. Rated PG, Stan & Ollie runs 98 minutes. Closed caption and descriptive narration available.
Reserved seats for Stan & Ollie are $9.75 for general admission and $9.25 for seniors and students. Service fees not included. Tickets are available online at www.theellentheatre.org, by calling (406) 585-5885, or by visiting the box office Wednesday through Saturday from 1–3pm, as well as two hours prior to the screening.
