BFS looks at differing living environments with Nov. titles
Bozeman Film Society proceeds with public film screenings during the month of November. Two events have been announced as part of the 2021-22 Season, and virtual films are still available to screen for cinephiles at home.
Next up, BFS screens Language Lessons starring Mark Duplass and Natalie Morales, who also directs. The event is set for 7pm on Wednesday, Nov. 10th at the Ellen Theatre.
When Adam’s (Duplass) husband surprises him with weekly Spanish lessons, he’s unsure about where or how this new element will fit into his already structured life. But when tragedy strikes, his Spanish teacher, Cariño (Morales), becomes a lifeline he didn’t know he needed. Adam develops an unexpected and complicated emotional bond with Cariño – but do you really know someone just because you’ve experienced a traumatic moment with them? Bittersweet, honest, and at times darkly funny, Language Lessons is a disarmingly moving exploration of platonic love. The film is Not Rated.
Following at 7pm Friday, Nov. 26th, enjoy the foreign selection I’m Your Man at the Ellen. It stars Maren Eggert and Dan Stevens, who helped the film take the 2021 Lola for Best Film, Germany’s top film award.
Alma (Eggert) is a scientist coerced into participating in an extraordinary study in order to obtain research funds for her work. For three weeks, she has to live with a humanoid robot tailored to her character and needs, whose artificial intelligence is designed to be the perfect life partner for her. Enter Tom (Downton Abby’s Stevens), a machine in human form in a class of its own, created solely to make her happy. Rated R, the film runs 105 minutes.
Catch the Bozeman premiere of adventure documentary film Torn on Monday, November 29th at 7pm. The free screening will be held at the Emerson Center for the Arts & Culture. Seating limited with masks required in the Crawford Theater. Visit the BFS website to reserve tickets.
On Oct. 5, 1999, legendary climber Alex Lowe was tragically lost alongside cameraman and fellow climber David Bridges in a deadly avalanche on the slopes of the Tibetan mountain, Shishapangma. Miraculously surviving the avalanche was Alex’s best friend and climbing partner, renowned mountaineer Conrad Anker. After the tragedy, Anker and Alex’s widow, Jennifer, fell in love and married, and Anker stepped in to help raise Alex’s three sons. Torn will deliver a profoundly intimate look at the Lowe-Anker family using never-before-released archival footage of the ill-fated 1999 expedition, early footage of Alex and Anker as young climbers, personal home videos and strikingly candid interviews with the Lowe-Ankers, the film will follow Max in his quest to understand his iconic late father as he explores family’s complex relationships in the wake of his father’s death.
Also this month, streamable options. Malaysian horror flick Roh, Japanese drama Wife of a Spy, and Rep. Barbara Lee profile Truth to Power are all ready to screen from the comfort of your living room, anytime.
