Bozeman Film Society (BFS) will present four highly acclaimed independent films this June in Downtown Bozeman. On Friday, June 1st, BFS is proud to join The Rialto in hosting one of the first screenings of The Most Unknown. Selected as one of the few theaters to premiere this epic documentary in advance of its theatrical release, The Rialto joins other art house theaters around the nation to explore what drives scientists to investigate the unknowns of the universe.
A first-of-its-kind filmmaking experiment, The Most Unknown follows nine scientists around the globe as they explore new fields and visit new places. Through these scientists’ journey – the film begins underneath a mountain and ends on a Monkey Island – The Most Unknown examines what it means to dedicate one’s life to uncovering some of humanity’s biggest questions. How did life begin? What is time? What is consciousness? How much do we really know? These essential questions have fueled scientific inquiry for generations. Tackle them June 1st with one of the film’s stars, Bozeman’s own Dr. Luke McKay, for an introduction as well as a follow-up Q&A where attendees will have a chance to ask your most burning questions. Not rated, the film runs 114 minutes.
On Wednesday, June 13th at The Ellen Theatre, BFS presents The Leisure Seeker at 7:30pm. The film stars Academy Award-winner Helen Mirren and two-time Golden Globe-winner Donald Sutherland as a runaway couple going on an unforgettable journey in the faithful old RV they call “The Leisure Seeker,” travelling from Boston to The Ernest Hemingway Home in Key West. They recapture their passion for life and their love for each other on a road trip that provides revelation and surprise right up to the very end. Rated R, the film runs 112 minutes.
BFS hosts Teton Gravity Research documentary Andy Irons: Kissed By God at the Ellen Theatre on Wednesday, June 20th at 7:30pm. A film about bipolar disorder and opioid addiction as seen through the life of three-time world champion surfer Andy Irons, this is not a film about surfing, but a film about a person that lived life to its fullest at the top of his industry while facing insurmountable internal challenges. Highlighting the struggles with the same demons that millions of people worldwide battle with daily, the evening features a special introduction and includes a Q&A with local experts in the field of opioid addiction and bipolar disorder. Rated R, the film runs 115 minutes.
Then, on Sunday, June 24th at The Rialto, join for WesFest 2018, the first-ever canine friendly film screening in Bozeman! Enjoy a full day of Wes Anderson films with your best friends, capped by his latest acclaimed new animated comedy, Isle of Dogs at 7:30pm. An outbreak of canine flu in Japan leads all dogs to be banished to an island. The outcasts soon embark on an epic journey when a 12-year-old boy arrives at the colony to find his beloved pet. The all-star voice cast includes Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Scarlett Johansson, Tilda Swinton, Greta Gerwig and Yoko Ono. Rated PG-13, the film runs 101 minutes.
