Bozeman Film Society continues its latest season with a screening of the critically acclaimed indie, The Mastermind. The event will be held at Downtown Bozeman’s Rialto Theater on Friday, December 5th. Directed by Kelly Reichardt, the film will screen at 7pm.
Against a Nixon-era backdrop of alienation and disillusionment, a taciturn family man (Josh O’Connor) makes the rash, largely inscrutable decision to orchestrate a heist at the local art museum in this restrained and often funny anti-thriller. Rated R, the film runs 110 minutes.
“Very possibly her most accessible and enjoyable film to date, still it remains an unmistakably Reichardtian investigation into the fabric of ordinariness and what happens when it frays.” – Variety
Following on Wednesday, December 17th, is a showing of documentary profile Wisdom of Happiness from co-directors Barbara Miller and Philip Delaquis. The film screens at 7pm at the Rialto.
The film shows a timeless truth: happiness is still possible, even in the midst of chaos and uncertainty. This powerful message of hope is delivered as a personal audience with one of the greatest living thinkers, Nobel Peace Prize winner Tenzin Gyatso, known to billions around the world as the Dalai Lama. Not Rated, the film runs 90 minutes.
Speaking as a member of our single global community, he shares practical wisdom for finding peace, compassion, and hope in the midst of chaos. With disarming clarity and deep humanity, he invites us to imagine – and help create – a world where compassion is activated as our strongest force for change, and happiness is within reach for everyone.

Late this month, historical comedy Blue Moon screens at the Ellen Theatre on Saturday, December 27th. Directed by Richard Linklater, the film begins at 7pm.
On the evening of March 31, 1943, legendary lyricist Lorenz Hart (Ethan Hawke) confronts his shattered self-confidence in Sardi’s bar as his former collaborator Richard Rodgers (Andrew Scott) celebrates the opening night of his ground-breaking hit musical “Oklahoma!” Rated R, the film runs 100 minutes.
“Despite the wistful tone, it’s a bitingly funny viewing experience. Shrunken to Hart’s height and given his balding pate, Hawke is transfixing in the role.” – The Atlantic
The Mastermind and Wisdom of Happiness screen on Dec. 5th and Dec. 17th, respectively, at the Rialto, before Blue Moon at the Ellen on Dec. 27th. Wine, beer and concessions will be available prior to the screenings. Find ticketing access and learn more about the current season at www.bozemanfilmsociety.org – and Keep ‘Em Flickering! •
