Bozeman Film Society is excited to take part in Give Big on May 3– 4! With so many excellent non-profits, all doing great things in the Gallatin Valley, we hope you’ll make BFS a part of your giving plan.
BFS offers a full slate of May films kicking off at 6:00 pm Sunday, May 6th at the Rialto Bozeman with adventure story Lean On Pete. In this beautiful coming-of-age film, Charley (Charlie Plummer of All the Money in the World) arrives in Portland with his single father, eager for a fresh start after a series of hard knocks. He finds acceptance and camaraderie at a local racetrack, where he lands a job caring for an aging Quarter Horse named Lean On Pete. When he learns Pete is bound for slaughter, the two embark on an odyssey across the new American frontier in search of a loving aunt whom Charley hasn’t seen in years. Raves Rolling Stone, “… hypnotic and haunting, Lean On Pete works miracles in miniature, painting a portrait of America that cuts deep.” Also starring Steve Buscemi, Chloe Sevigny and Steve Zahn, the film runs 121 minutes and is Rated R.
Join BFS at the Ellen Theatre at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, May 9th for the uproarious and wickedly irreverent satire, The Death of Stalin. Directed by Armando Ianucci, the Emmy-award and Oscar-nominated creator of VEEP, Stalin is a bitingly funny takedown of bureaucratic dysfunction when Joseph Stalin’s parasitic cronies square off in a frantic power struggle after the dictator’s death in 1953. Combining palace intrigue with rapid-fire farce—performed to the hilt by a sparkling ensemble cast including Jeffrey Tambor, Steve Buscemi, Jason Isaacs and Michael Palin—New York Times’ film critic Manohle Dargis writes, “The laughs come in jolts and waves, delivered in a brilliantly arranged mix of savage one-liners, lacerating dialogue and perfectly timed slapstick.” Rated R, the film runs 107 minutes.
On May 20th at 6:00 pm at Rialto Bozeman, BFS continues its highly popular Science on Screen (SoS) series with Infinitely Polar Bear, an exploration of a family’s resilience in the face of mental illness. Based on director Maya Forbes’ autobiographical story, the film follows Cameron (Mark Ruffalo), a man who suffers from bipolar disorder. After a breakdown forces him to leave his family and move into a halfway house, he attempts to rebuild a relationship with his two daughters and win back the trust of his wife Maggie (Zoe Saldana). The screening coincides with National Mental Health Month and will feature guest speakers Jessie Close, Ambassador for the National organization, Bring Change to Mind (whose mission is to end the stigma and discrimination surrounding mental illness), and Director of the Gallatin Mental Health Center, Michael Foust, who will moderate the evening’s panel discussion. SoS is underwritten by a generous grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation and administered by the Coolidge Corner Theatre. Rated R, the film runs 90 minutes. $5.00/All.
