Bozeman Film Society continues its latest season with New York Times Critic’s Pick Griffin in Summer on Wednesday, November 12th. The event will be held at Downtown Bozeman’s Ellen Theatre at 7pm.
Bozeman actor and Ellen Theatre stage alumni, Everett Blunck, shines in this coming-of-age film. At just 13, he landed the role of Griffin Nafly, an ambitious young playwright navigating friendship, first crushes and the trials of adolescence. His performance has been called confident, charming and award-worthy. Other films include The Plague with Joel Edgerton (coming soon), Blood for Dust, Outlaw Posse, Rust, plus limited series Bring on the Dancing Horses.
Griffin Nafly (Blunck) is the most ambitious playwright of his generation. He’s also fourteen years old and living with his parents in a humdrum suburb while dreaming of moving to New York City. When his mom (Melanie Lynskey) hires a handsome 25-year-old handyman (Owen Teague), Griffin’s life and his new play take an inspired turn. Written and Directed by Nicholas Colia, the film also stars Kathryn Newton and Abby Ryder Fortson. Rated R, the film runs 93 minutes.
“Blunck is an arresting presence. He balances Griffin’s intensity and know-it-all attitude with unexpected moments of typical adolescent insecurity.” – The Hollywood Reporter

Following on Friday, November 21st, catch an Ellen screening of charming indie Eleanor the Great. The film begins at 7pm.
In the film, June Squibb brings to vivid life the witty and proudly troublesome 94-year-old Eleanor Morgenstein, who after a devastating loss, tells a tale that takes on a dangerous life of its own. Scarlett Johansson’s directorial debut is a comically poignant exploration of how the stories we hear become the stories we tell. Also starring Erin Kellyman, Jessica Hecht, Rita Zohar, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Rated PG-13, the film runs 98 minutes.
“The definition of truth, and the nature of grief, are explored through a salty, shrewd and satisfying performance from Squibb, who deserves and elevates all the roles that come her way.” – AARP
