Wild Joe*s hosts Elijah Mann, Christopher Alexander & more
Wild Joe*s Coffee Spot in Downtown Bozeman is a great place for a caffeine fix, but it also doubles as a live music venue for local artists and those passing through our not-so-little mountain town. Here’s a look at what’s on the upcoming calendar.
Austin-based singer/songwriter and poet Elijah Mann performs Friday, December 15th from 6–8pm. Inspired by artists like Glen Hansard and Hozier, the alt-folk artist has shared the stage with such acts as Lalah Hathaway, Radiator King, Abby Anastasio, Steve Knecht, Stone Cold Fox, and The Non Sequiturs. His debut EP, To Fall Apart, is available now.
Open Mic Night kicks off a new month on Friday, December 16th from 6–8pm. There is a $3 entry fee for this event. Come for an evening of music performed by local musicians. Bring your guitar, sitar, zither, poetry, comedy, or theremin and take a turn up at the mic. Show Bozeman what you’re made of! Individual set lengths depend on the number of musicians who want to play. Sign-ups start at 5:30pm — first come, first served. Be sure to bring your friends and support live music in Bozeman! A modest contribution to the kitty will be divided by participating musicians at the end of the night. The more people who come, the more money in the pot. An additional Open Mic Night, and the first of the new year, is set for Jan. 6th from 6–8pm.
Christopher Alexander stops by on Saturday, December 30th from 6–8pm. He’s a Bozeman-based 70s-style piano guy, singer/songwriter, and collaborator. With comparisons to Randy Newman, Warren Zevon, Leon Russell and Tom Waits, Christopher has built his entire life around the themes he has found on the local scene, in travels, and through extensive study of the piano men that came before him. Originally from Missoula, “Snaxxx” is an individual stand out, old school piano man show.
Looking ahead, Tara Lynn Walrus is set for Saturday, January 13th from 6–8pm. Simultaneously witty and weird, cheeky and charming, the Arizona-born singer/songwriter has been performing as a solo act for two years, in addition to collaborating and touring with fellow musicians for over ten. She’s currently promoting the release of her debut solo EP, Habits. The collection includes sweet and relatable tracks like “The Awkward Song” and “Untamable,” bringing the unsparing strangeness and sometimes uncomfortable sweetness of our everyday thoughts and desires into a fresh, thoughtful, searingly endearing light.
