Emerson spikes the traditional art class w/ popular series
The Emerson Center for the Arts & Culture continues to present its popular Art on the Rocks series this spring and summer. If you’re creative but need direction and don’t want the commitment of a multi-week course, this batch of classes is just the ticket. Grab some friends and enjoy a creative evening filled with step-by-step art instruction, socializing, and yes – cocktails! This is not your average wine and painting class. The Art on the Rocks series switches up the medium and beverages each session for those looking to learn something new and drink something different. Let your favorite poison inspire a new passion!
Classes are held the first and third Thursday of every month from 6:30–8:30pm through August (no class on the Fourth of July). The Emerson and Rocking R Bar, the event series’ sponsor, share hosting duties. Here’s a look at the upcoming gatherings.
Sauvignon & Sewing is first up on April 4th at the Rocking R Bar. Create a modern and beautiful fabric collage from recycled fabrics. Beer & Baskets follows on April 18th at the Emerson. Weave a basket to fill with goodies! Back at the Rockin’ R, pull up a barstool for Gin & Juice & Jewelry on May 2nd. Create custom jewelry for a special lady just in time for Mother’s Day! Also at the R Bar, White Claw & Weaving will take place May 16th. Hand-weave a decorative wall hanging with yarn. On June 6th, Coors & Ceramics moves to the Emerson where participants will create functional art out of clay. Cider & Candles is set for June 20th at the Emerson. Enjoy hard cider while making your own scented candle. July 18th sees Pinot & Portraits at the Emerson – learn the art of drawing the human face! Opening the last month of summer on August 1st, the Emerson hosts Beer & Batik for the curious to learn the ancient art of dying fabric with wax resist. And closing this round of Art on the Rocks on August 15th is Prosecco & Plein Air. Practice drawing on site using scenes around the Emerson.
Cost for these classes is $35 each for Emerson members and $40 for non-members. Registration includes supplies and two signature cocktails. Must be 21+ to enroll. For additional series information and to register, please visit www.theemerson.org/class-schedule.
