Area youth present Antarctica-set Shakespeare classic
The Children’s Shakespeare Society will present one of the English poet’s most celebrated plays this month. Enjoy stagings of A Midsummer Night’s Dream on Friday, March 11th at 7pm, then again on Saturday and Sunday, March 12th and 13th at 3pm. All performances will be held at Christus Collegium, located at 714 8th Ave. in Bozeman.
Join this little band of players ages 5-17 in celebration of all that can go wrong when you mix a pair of lovers with a mischievous elf entrusted with, of all things, a bottle of love potion! Add to that an inept troupe of mechanical repairmen attempting to mount a theatrical retelling of Ovid’s tragedy, Pyramus and Thisbe and you’ve got hilarity at its best. Directors Erik Pearson and McKenna Kelly-Eiding place this version in Antarctica, and the fun ensues! Shake off some of those midwinter blues and enjoy the ridiculous hilarity of this well-loved comedy written by Shakespeare over 400 years ago.
General admission is $11. Children under the age of 10 pay $9. Advance tickets may be purchased through www.shakespearekidsmt.org. Call (406) 600-1145 with additional questions and to reserve tickets over the phone.
Since 2010, the Children’s Shakespeare Society has provided classical literary, educational and theatrical opportunities for children to include multiple full-length productions of Shakespeare’s plays, Victorian Melodrama and Vaudeville, as well as workshops and camps on topics such as fight choreography, archery, scenic and costume design, just to name a few. •
