Anderson youth players to stage music-filled fantasy comedy, Matilda
Local Anderson School students will present the full-length staging of family favorite Matilda the Musical this spring. Performances will be held at the Emerson Center for the Arts & Culture Thursday to Saturday, April 2nd–4th. Curtains at 7pm each night, with a special Saturday matinee at 2pm. In its 25th year of extravagant theatrical productions, Anderson promises Matilda the Musical will not disappoint.
Inspired by the twisted genius of Roald Dahl, this Tony Award-winning musical tells the story of Matilda, an extraordinary girl who, armed with a wonderful spirit and a sharp mind, dares to take a stand and change her destiny. Packed with high energy dance numbers and memorable tunes, Matilda is funny, ruckus and wise. Children and adults alike will be thrilled and delighted by the story of a special little girl with an extraordinary imagination, tenacity and resilience.
Some of the most notable songs include “Naughty,” “When I Grow Up” and “Revolting Children.” In the tradition of Anderson productions, Matilda set an incredible artist feat. An army of creative parents have created a world of letters, wrapping the stage in scrabble tiles. The rest of the set is a blend of letter blocks and shapes that represent the literary passions of our young heroine.
Tickets are available at www.showtix4u.com (search “Matilda”) or at the door. They are $10 for the main floor and $7 for balcony seating. Anderson’s production of Matilda the Musical is based on the book by Dennis Kelly, with music and lyrics by Tim Minchin.
The Little Red Schoolhouse Players were founded in 1996 with OZ! as its inaugural show. Additional productions have included Oliver!, Peter Pan, The Sound of Music, The Little Mermaid, Tom Sawyer, Alice in Wonderland, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Fiddler on the Roof, among others.
