The Ellen Theatre, a Downtown Bozeman institution, is your source for some of the area’s best big screen entertainment and stage performances. It also houses some great musical acts, both local and those coming through town. Here’s a look at what’s coming up.
On Sunday, April 15th, another classic lights up the silver screen with the 1959 biblical epic Ben-Hur. The film stars Charlton Heston in the title role as a Jewish prince who is betrayed by a Roman friend and sent into slavery. He is determined to regain his freedom and come back for revenge. Rated G, Ben-Hur runs 3 hours and 32 minutes. Tickets are only $5. Note: The originally scheduled FREE Family Movie screening of Mulan has been cancelled.
The Amina Figarova Sextet takes the stage on Friday, April 27th. On tour promoting Figarova’s most recent album, Blue Whisper, the sextet introduces audiences to its colorful and compelling jazz compositions. Tickets are $23.50 and the music begins at 7:30pm.
For one night only, comedian Mathew Mitchell makes the first and final stop on his world tour, Saturday, April 28th at 7:30pm. Mitchell is a high school senior who spent the last year performing stand-up across Montana, crafting his unique act. This senior project is a comedy special, written and performed by Mitchell. The event also features musical guest Landon Liudahl and is hosted by Garrison Choitz. Tickets are $5 (plus a $1.50 facility fee). A portion of each ticket sale goes to Family Promise of Gallatin Valley, a local organization that works to provide shelter, meals, training, and many other necessities to families in need.
Screening Sunday, April 29th at 2pm, The Paleface is a 1948 comedy Western starring Bob Hope as dentist “Painless Potter” and Jane Russell as Calamity Jane. Potter is of questionable competence and a certified coward, finding himself tangled up in the dangerous business of fighting crime when he falls for Calamity Jane. All seats are $5. The Paleface runs 1 hour, 32 minutes.
And kicking off a new month, Pat McGann visits The Ellen on Saturday, May 5th at 8pm. McGann is a stand-up comedian and television host from Chicago. In 2015, he made his second appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman. McGann created and hosted the Emmy-nominated television show The Chicago Stand-Up Project. He’s been invited to The Great American Comedy Festival, Laugh Fest, The Lucille Ball Comedy Festival, and has been heard on the nationally syndicated The Bob & Tom Show, as well as seen on AXS-TV’s Gotham Comedy Live. His debut comedy album, Sounds Good, can be heard on SiriusXM radio.
