It’s May – time to sing at Norris Hot Springs!
“The Lusty Month of May” is a song you may remember from Camelot, but there are lots of songs that celebrate May in all of her splendor. In just a short Google search, we found songs from Blue Rodeo, Arcade Fire, Enya, the Bee Gees, Jimi Hendrix, Michael Bublé and Fleet Foxes – but only one mentioned “lusty.” This month is notable for Cinco de Mayo, Earth Day and family celebrations on Mother’s Day – and maybe the “lusty” adjective just reflects how excited we all are to see green grass, flowers and baby animals after such a long winter.
May is also a big month for the on-site garden at Norris Hot Springs. Plants are started under abundant sunshine in the greenhouse and the No LoOse Dogs Saloon will soon have first of the season micro and salad greens, just in time to join the 50 Mile Grill specials later this month. The Grill features locally procured protein sources including beef, poultry, fish, lamb and more – all sourced from farms and ranches within 50 miles of Norris Hot Springs. This is an important focus for Norris and guarantees customers the most deliciously nutritious food available.
Craft beers, a wide selection of wine and non-alcoholic drinks are available to accompany your meal, served poolside of course. Make a trip to Norris soon to enjoy the returning birdlife, including two Sandhill cranes that have spent several years raising their chicks in the wetland adjacent to Springs.
And if your visit happens to fall on a weekend, you can also add to the experience with the finest in regional acoustic live music every Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 7pm.
John Sherrill opens up a new month on Friday, May 3rd. The singer/songwriter plays “a lot of guitar and also sings some” and has been playing around the Bozeman area for quite a while. Developing his artistry during stints in different areas of the country, Sherrill has created a sound that’s truly unique. He brings his twangy jazz-pop and unique personality to every performance. Sherrill returns to Bozeman after some time away, with his incredible music to boot!

Weston Lewis
Seldom Kings take the Poolside Stage on Saturday, May 4th. The fun, creative pair of multi-instrumentalists will entertain with original music, spot-on covers and those barely recognizable, as well as some other great surprises.
Weston Lewis will treat Cinco soakers with some live tunes on Sunday, May 5th. Lewis plays with a number of local bands, solo performances, and as a sit-in lead guitarist for artists including The Andrew Hand Band, John Sherrill, The Electric Sunday, Lang Termes, Mathias, and MOTH. His solo sets are comprised mostly of acoustic rock covers and some of his original songs. In band settings, he likes to play funk, jazz, country and more.
Billings singer/songwriter Mandie Castro returns to Norris on Friday, May 10th. She’ll perform selections from her spring 2018 EP Sunshine and some other crowd favorites. Castro has a very unique vocal style comparable to Jewel, Tori Amos, Fiona Apple and Alanis Morissette. Enjoy her talents during your Friday night soak!
Aran Buzzas follows on Saturday, May 11th. Calling his music “Homegrown Montana Folky Tonk,” Aran performs songs that are easy to relate to, often amusing, and frequently with a regional backdrop.
Wind and the Willows blow in on Sunday, May 12th. Imports from Evergreen, Colorado, Willows’ lead singers Ryen Dalvit and Maren Stubenvoll bring their distinct sound to Montana, a blend of brass, strings, and triple harmonies. The band’s roots lie in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. From writing tunes in caves and atop mountains, to performing in taprooms and other intimate venues, these once upon a time classmates became a songwriting duo finding inspiration in their beautiful surroundings and budding sisterhood. The Wind and the Willows bring a fresh taste of folk to their new home of Bozeman.
Nathan North is back on Friday, May 17th. A Billings performer, Nathan uses loops to create complex and wonderful songs. He’ll be performing originals and notable covers.
Mathias is next up on Saturday, May 18th. The Bozeman-based singer/songwriter has been playing music under the big sky for nearly two decades. With powerful vocals and a percussive guitar style, he’s known for his dynamic live performances full of acoustic folk, rock, and funk tunes. Mathias recorded his debut album, Walk Alone, with the help of Emmy Award-winning producer Jeremiah Slovarp.
Travis Yost, a Norris favorite, closes out the weekend on Sunday, May 19th. Also known around town as Love is a Dog from Nebraska, Travis is a musician, engineer, and producer from Missoula. He’s performed all over the West as a solo artist, and with other performers including Tom Catmull, Stellarondo, and NextDoorPrisonHotel. Travis has guested on Eric Funk’s 11th & Grant and performed at Red Ants Pants. He’s shared the stage with James McMurtry, Alejandro Escovedo, The Decemberists, The Lumineers, Jason Spooner, Martin Sexton, Wartime Blues, Sallie Ford, Jason Isbell, Dale Watson, and Brandi Carlile – to name just a few. He performs thoughtful sad stories with happy endings, on top of guitar and looper acrobatics.
