
Guest percussionist Neeraj Mehta joins Bozeman Symphony for spirited season finale
Under the direction of guest conductor Sameer Patel, the Bozeman Symphony Orchestra and Symphonic Choir presents From the New World with special guest percussionist Neeraj Mehta on Saturday, April 13th at 7:30pm and Sunday, April 14th at 2:30pm. Both performances will take place at the Willson Auditiorium.
Dvorák’s high-spirited Carnival Overture begins the final concert of Bozeman Symphony’s 51st concert season. Then, Tomás Svoboda’s gorgeous treatment of the most beautiful of percussion instruments is featured in his enchanting Concerto for Marimba. Finally, the season concludes with Dvorák’s most beloved masterpiece, his Symphony No. 9, From the New World.
Neeraj Mehta is an active performer and educator, having presented concerts, clinics and master classes in North America and Europe. With interests in a wide variety of percussive styles, Dr. Mehta has performed and recorded with numerous artists and ensembles including: Michael Udow, the Michigan Chamber Players, Alan Abel and Anthony Orlando of the Philadelphia Orchestra, New Music Detroit, Linda Maxey, Michael Spiro, John Santos, and Clyde Stubblefield of the James Brown Band. In addition to his work in western art music, Dr. Mehta is an active jazz and Latin percussionist. He is currently on the music faculty of Casper College, Wyoming, and received his Doctor of Musical Arts and master’s degrees at the University of Michigan.
Internationally recognized for his deep musicianship and passionate communication, Sameer Patel is one of America’s most exciting young conductors. In the 2018-2019 Season, Sameer continues in his role as Associate Conductor of the San Diego Symphony and as Associate Conductor of the Sun Valley Summer Symphony. With an unending enthusiasm for understanding the music of our time, Patel has curated programs and championed music by living composers such as Adam Schoenberg, Anna Clyne, Mason Bates, Ellen Reid, Hannah Lash, and Tan Dun, among others. His impressive work spans three continents.
