SUMMARY:Nick Lyons to Present “Evolution of a Fly Fisherman”
DESCRIPTION:Nick Lyons\, angler\, writer\, and founder of Lyons Press\, will speak at Montana State University Library’s 2026 Trout Lecture. The free event\, titled “Evolution of a Fly Fisherman\,” takes place at 7 p.m. Tuesday\, April 28\, in Inspiration Hall in MSU’s Norm Asbjornson Hall. A reception will follow.\nBefore founding The Lyons Press\, Lyons was a professor of English at Hunter College and an executive editor at Crown Publishers. At Crown\, he developed the Sportsmen’s Classics series bringing many classic fly-fishing books back into print and publishing dozens original\, practical\, and literary new books in the field. Lyons started the “Seasonable Angler” column in Fly Fisherman magazine\, which he authored for over 25 years\, and wrote more than a dozen books of his own including his popular “Spring Creek.” His personal papers were acquired by MSU Archives and Special Collections in 2006. The collection includes more than 5\,000 letters\, notes\, and other materials related to his career. \nThrough the annual Trout Lecture\, the library strives to speak to all aspects of trout and salmonids and to represent the diversity of angling culture. Thanks to generous donors\, this event is free and open to the public. \nFor information about the MSU Library’s Trout and Salmonid Collection\, visit https://www.lib.montana.edu/archives/trout-salmonid.html\, or contact Trout and Salmonid Librarian James Thull a jjthull@montana.edu or 406-994-5305.
