DESCRIPTION:AUTHOR TALK with CINDY OWINGS \nSunday\, August 24th @ 4 pm at ‘Live From The Divide’ \nMontana artist Cindy Owings will share from two books. \nHer latest book\, Ralph Home: A Painted Story of Friendship\, features bright\nwatercolor paintings and cherished anecdotes about the objects Cindy\npurchased from the late artisan goods dealer Ralph McHenry at his Four\nCorners Antiques shop and later at his Montana Expressions showroom. \nThe Purple Blanket memoir tells the 23-year story of how a wool coat and\nhome goods manufacturing business began in Cindy’s living room and grew into\na 5\,000-square-foot factory on Bozeman’s historic North Wallace Street.\nWomen-owned businesses in the 1980s were rare\, yet Cindy Owings Designs\n(COD) excelled in a male-dominated fashion industry by creating outerwear\nthat celebrated Rocky Mountain wildlife\, heritage\, and the use of wool.\nAlthough the COD factory was far from the epicenters of fashion\, New York\nCity’s 5th Avenue boutiques\, Oprah’s “Love It” List\, and sitcoms regularly\nfeatured Cindy’s designs. \nCOD coats and the original artwork from Ralph Home will be on display.
