“Treasure State Tycoon: Nelson Story and the Making of Montana” Book Reading and Signing
Tuesday, July 9, 5:30 – 6:30 pm
Museum of the Rockies, Lower-Level Classroom
Join the Extreme History Project as we learn about the remarkable life of Nelson Story from local historian John Russell. Russell will read from his new book “Treasure State Tycoon: Nelson Story and the Making of Montana.” Story was a complex and colorful figure whose influence on Montana’s development was profound. After striking it rich in the gold fields of Alder Gulch, Story drove the first herd of cattle from Texas to the territory that would become the Treasure State and went on to build a diverse commercial empire.
Early praise for Russell’s work comes from Dr. Michael D. Wise, Associate Professor of History at the University of North Texas, who says: “This is a tale vital to Montana history as well as the history of the American West.” Russell will have copies on hand for purchase and signing. This is a book you won’t want to miss!
This event is free and open to the public.
