DESCRIPTION:Thomas “Yellowstone” Moran and Yellowstone National Park \nPresentation by Jack Davis \nWednesday\, November 11 \n6:00 pm \nGallatin History Museum \nJoin us as we welcome speaker Jack Davis\, who will share his research on “Thomas ‘Yellowstone’ Moran and Yellowstone National Park.” Davis will outline how Moran’s 1871 artwork was a decisive factor in Congress establishing Yellowstone as the first national park in 1872. Artist Thomas Moran and photographer William Henry Jackson had a close working relationship. The presentation will highlight some of Moran’s plein air field sketches and watercolor paintings\, along with Jackson’s early albumen photographs. Travel back in time with the Hayden Geological Survey of 1871 as they explore the region of the Upper Yellowstone River that later became Yellowstone National Park.
