DESCRIPTION:SwingStaged Workshop Reading\nSwing is a site-specific\, voyeuristic soap opera. It is a play that lives in the serene\, peace and misery of Suburban America. Curving\, freshly-paved “lanes” and “drives” run in endless circles around green lawns and decorative shutters. There is a charming town center with a “main street” and bookshops\, a boutique hotel\, a local bank\, and vacant storefronts that could be a gallery. The schools are among the highest ranked in the country (and so are the property taxes\, wink.) But the entire show is set at a small park where there is a swingset. The children are not to be cast\, they are to be played as pantomime by the adult cast. What really separates children and adults if not our shared belief that kids grow up and change into adults? Come as a patron to theater\, leave with a new guilty pleasure.
