“Spirit Horse Journey – Resiliency for Uncertain Times and as a Suicide Prevention Strategy “
In this free 2-hour experience, you will gain coping strategies and resiliency skills to empower your daily living…Offered by MontanaQuest EGS and River Pines Horse Sanctuary
According to Karl Rossman, LCSW, Suicide Prevention Coordinator, at the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services – 2 things not being addressed to prevent Suicidality are coping skills and resiliency training – both are even more important in this year of uncertainty to regain a sense of control and hope!
MontanaQuest has expanded the Resiliency Training and Suicide Prevention Strategies offered to the community this year. This expanded educational opportunity provides the key to basic resiliency skills that will empower you to cope and rebound in these uncertain times with personal authority and flexibility. In this 2-hour experience we introduce basic concepts from Social and Emotional Intelligence-based science.
During International Suicide Prevention week this September, we invite the public to be our guest to experience basic concepts important to opening the door to achieving both coping skills and resiliency in our “Spirit Horse Journey”. The Journey begins in a safe, guided experience grooming a horse, and moves the person from this connection-based activity through 2 additional equine guided experiences enabling increased personal awareness and empowerment.
Research shows several positive outcomes after a guided educational experience with horses
which can be highly beneficial in these ways:
• It may inspire and reward connection with others – family, friends and community members – “tend and befriend” behavior and activate social recognition circuits in the brain
• It can reduce blood pressure and stress hormones
• It may buffer the flight, fight or freeze response in favor of a “calm and connect” response
• It has a “contact high” effect to positively affect a family, group or herd, not just the individual
• It can elevate pain thresholds and promote faster healing
• It can create heightened learning capacity
