Rob Rath Endangered Species Mural Viewing
November 14 @ 4:00pm
INVITATION from Valerie Harms
On Thursday, November 14th, I will host a viewing of the mural by Rob Rath on my garage door of an endangered species, the pallid and white sturgeon. You are invited to attend between 4-6 p.m. My home is located at 3701 Ravalli Street in Bozeman.
The orginator of this project is April Craighead, wildlife biologist for the Craighead Institute. Adapted from a National Audubon Society project, the Institute wanted to educate people about endangered species in Montana. She says: “I wanted people to learn about and truly appreciate these endangered species through the lens of art. These are amazing species and we should work to protect them and their habitats in any way we can. Extinction is forever and once they are gone…they are gone.”
Rob Rath says: “It’s an honor to have my work selected by the attendees of this year’s Sweet Pea Festival to raise awareness through the Craighead Institute for Montana’s endangered species and bring art to unexpected places in Bozeman. I loved drawing the spiky sturgeon in a jagged style that references beer labels to give the prehistoric-looking fish a modern sense of style.
Valerie says: I offered the space on my house because I do everything I can to protect threatened and endangered species. Come, meet us, and have a snack. I hope you will enjoy the mural in days to come.
