MSU School of Music sets piano trio recital April 16
The concert will feature MSU music professors Julia Cory Slovarp, cello, Angella Ahn, violin, and Julie Gosswiller, piano.
Montana State University School of Music will host the recital “Julie, Julia and Angella,” a program of piano trios performed by MSU music professors Julie Gosswiller, piano, Julia Cory Slovarp, cello, and Angella Ahn, violin, at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 16, in Reynolds Recital Hall.
The program features Jennifer Higdon’s “Piano Trio,” Sergei Rachmaninoff’s “Trio Elegiaque,” “Elegie,” by Joseph Suk, and the Leonard Bernstein “Piano Trio.”
Gosswiller, MSU piano professor, is an active recitalist and collaborative pianist who tours nationally and internationally. Cory Slovarp, MSU cello professor, is an active performer and clinician, having played and taught across the country and internationally. Ahn, MSU professor of violin and viola, is violinist in the internationally reknown Ahn Trio, which also includes her sisters Lucia, piano, and Maria, cello. The sisters have released numerous albums, several of which have won international awards, including Germany’s prestigious ECHO Award. The Ahn Trio has also performed at the White House, invited by President Obama in 2011.
In addition, the trio will be touring in China this year, along with MSU’s Director of Orchestras, Tobin Stewart, performing and working with students in Wuhan, Nanjing, and Zhengzhou.
Admission is $15 for general admission and $5 for students. Tickets will be available at the door.
Reynolds Recital Hall is located in Howard Hall, across the street from the MSU Duck Pond.
